Currently I'm writing (along with my husband) and illustrating (by myself) a book series about "Paco and Maureena," a wild boar and a packrat who meet and form a close bond of friendship and mutual appreciation for their many differences. The characters and events are set in late 15th century Florence, Italy, at the height of the Renaissance.
Before beginning the Paco and Maureena chronicles I took a break for several years from doing illustration work. During that time, I worked on several different art projects. Before that, in 2011-2012, I collaborated with text writer Lee Rankin to illustrate her Snow Bee, an unpublished book about (surprise!) a bee who enjoys the snow. In 2003 the late Marjorie Fay Underhill of Richmond, Virginia, and I published Jeremiah (Parkway Publishers, Boone NC in 2003). Marjorie Fay had a delightful sense of what would appeal to children and at the same time was able to write a deeply spiritual text for them.
Childrens' book writer Penny Ledbetter wrote a series of books that I illustrated called the Forest Friends series. These were published in 2005, 2006 and 2007 by Catawba Publishers, Charlotte NC. My first first childrens' book, Sarah's Bead, was published in the fall of 2000 by the Divine Mirror Press, Albuquerque NM.
