I am drawn to making books by hand because it combines a love of literature with the meticulous care of artistic skills. It conjures up the time in Western Europe called The Incunabula, when books were written or copied by scribes, illuminated by artists (often monks and nuns), with bindings that were the work of master craftsmen. Each book takes years of labor and is a unique work of art.
